NO! NO! A THOUSAND TIMES NO!

Peter was NOT the rock upon whom Jesus would build his church!

This is a Roman Catholic fallacy to justify the papacy! Does anyone actually READ their bible?

LET’S GET THIS STRAIGHT - ONCE AND FOR ALL!

When Jesus said "And upon THIS ROCK I will build my church" it is the same as when he said "Destroy THIS TEMPLE and in three days I will raise it up again." Jesus, in both cases, was referring to HIMSELF. JESUS is the Rock upon whom he would build his church! The Solid Rock, the Rock of our Salvation, etc. The ROCK is JESUS! Oh, how my heart is pained every time I see someone who has believed a Catholic distortion! I want to shout it to the world:

JESUS IS THE ROCK - JESUS IS THE ROCK - JESUS IS THE ROCK UPON WHOM HE WILL BUILD HIS CHURCH!

It is little wonder why God will destroy Mystery Babylon, THE WHORE AND MOTHER OF HARLOTS!

In that passage, Matthew 16:18, the word PETER is used. This is actually the word PETROS, which means A PIECE OF ROCK. (Petros is a Greek word.)

Also in the same verse, the word ROCK is used. This is actually the word PETRA, which means A MASS OF ROCK. (Petra is also a Greek word.)

When Jesus first met Simon Peter, it was because Andrew brought Simon Peter to Jesus. In John 1:42 it says:

And he [Andrew] brought him [Simon Peter] to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, "Thou are Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas," which is by interpretation, A stone.
CEPHAS, or KEPHAS, is a Greek word derived of Chaldean origin - the Chaldean word meaning "to provoke or enrage, to become exasperated, or to be angry or wroth."

The name Cephas was what Jesus called Peter at the start, for he knew Peter had these tendencies toward being impetuous. LATER, as Cephas (Simon Peter as we know him) received revelation of who Jesus was, because he had been listening so intently for so long to Jesus speak, and actually PAYING ATTENTION, Jesus then gave him a NEW name, which was PETROS. Peter had grown so much spiritually - this is how he could discern who the LORD was. And immediately after addressing Peter with his new name - a piece of rock- Jesus then says that upon THIS LARGE MASS OF ROCK - indicating HIMSELF, that he would build his church.

Jesus was also referred to as "the stone which the builders rejected" - the CORNERSTONE. We, as believers, including Peter as much as it includes you or me, are also referred to as being stones, but differentiated from the cornerstone:

I Peter 2:5 -
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Jesus is PETRA - THE LARGE MASS OF ROCK UPON WHOM HE WILL BUILD HIS CHURCH. Remember that Jesus is THE WORD OF GOD. Is it not THE WORD OF GOD upon which the church is built? And we are all PETROS - pieces of the rock.

Jesus is the CORNERSTONE - and we are all as LIVELY STONES.

Jesus is the HEAD, and we are all the BODY of Christ.

Qualifier: the word, CEPHAS, OR KEPHAS, means "the rock." All other information given above about this word still holds true.

LET'S RIGHTLY DIVIDE THE WORD OF TRUTH! Coming behind once again to clarify that TWO DIFFERENT WORDS were used in this passage. One was used to address Peter, the other was Y'shua referring to HIMSELF. (PLEASE SEE MY CORRECTION ABOVE!) To add more proof that Peter is NOT the rock upon whom Y'shua would build his church, and NEITHER IS PETER THE CORNERSTONE OF THE CHURCH, I post the following scriptures from God's Word, which is the final authority on all matters.

Matthew 21:42 - (Y'shua speaking here)
Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same is become the head of the corner: this is the Lord's doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes?

Continuing in verse 44, Y'shua says:
And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder.

This statement is also repeated in Mark 12:10, and Luke 20:17.

Now this is what PETER had to say about it:

Acts 4:10-12 (PETER speaking here)
Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, [even] by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

and

I Peter 2:5 - 8 (PETER speaking here)
Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.

Wherefore also it is contained in the scripture, Behold, I lay in Sion a chief corner stone, elect, precious: and he that believeth on him shall not be confounded.

Unto you therefore which believe [he is] precious: but unto them which be disobedient, the stone which the builders disallowed, the same is made the head of the corner,

And a stone of stumbling, and a rock of offence, [even to them] which stumble at the word, being disobedient: whereunto also they were appointed.
